FEFO: first expired, first out
FEFO selects eligible stock with the earliest expiry date first. The earliest received batch is not always the earliest to expire.
What to review
- Capture reliable expiry dates
- Keep batches identifiable
- Exclude blocked or unsuitable stock
- Check customer shelf-life requirements
A simple example
A batch received this week expires before one received last month. FEFO would favour the earlier expiry, provided the goods are eligible for the intended customer and dispatch.
