3PL warehouse management: evaluate the fit
A third-party logistics operation needs more than a stock list. Start by defining who owns the goods, who may see them and how each movement becomes a billable service.
What to review
- Client ownership and access boundaries
- Warehouse and bin structure
- Receiving, picking and dispatch records
- Contract-specific reports and billing requirements
Test one client end to end
Use sample receipts and orders for two clients. Check that staff can identify ownership at every step and that an account cannot expose another customer's records. Company isolation is not a promise of a complete multi-client 3PL portal.
Scope specialist functions
Automated storage billing, branded client portals, SLA calculations and cross-client reporting must be demonstrated and explicitly included in your proposal. Do not assume these are standard modules.
